What I'll Bring With Me

The coming of the new year brings to me thoughts of all the new beginnings we stand on, that make up my foundations. I think of my great grandfather who came to this country when he was 7 years old, crossing the great Atlantic to behold a vision of Liberty—what did he bring? What did he leave behind? I think of my father who came to this country when he was 7 years old. How log did it take before his dreams catch up with him? Changing from dreams of tobacco fields and slingshot battles with birds to television static, to dreams of things...maybe they never did catch up. Many things may pass with me as I immigrate to the country in the new year, but it is their dreams that I will carry close to my heart.
